CCSR Conductor David Chin

23rd Annual Concert 2006

As a conductor, pianist, and composer, David Chin has experienced a career-defining year that young musicians dream of. Recent appointments to teach at the 21st World Sacred Music Conference in Auckland, New Zealand, the 4th Annual Youth Choral Camp in East Malaysia, selection as one of ten (global competition) conductors to attend the Sarteano Chamber Music Workshop in Italy, and appointment as the Music Director of the Chinese Choral Society of Rochester, N.Y., have solidly placed Chin as a leader in the next generation of globe-trotting musicians.

David studied piano with world-renowned pianist Daisy de Lucca Jaffe (pupil of Magda Tagliaferro, Fredriech Gulda, Richard Hauser, and Guido Agosti), and David Ehrman. His voice coaches included Raymond Gibbs, former Metropolitan Opera House tenor, Wayne Kompelien, and Kathryn Cowdrick. David had also won awards in original compositions for chorus and orchestra, piano solo, and piano concerto throughout the year. His original sacred piano arrangement was broadcast on the International Television Program in the United States. He has also collaborated with numerous instrumentalists and singers throughout North America and Asia.

David directed several prestigious choirs and orchestras including the the Germany Bavarian Brass Band, Petaling Jaya Philharmonic Orchestra and Youth Chamber Orchestra, Liberty University Chamber Singers, Monee Youth Chamber Orchestra, Vietnam Chinese Church Choir, Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church Choir, Bolingbrook Independent Baptist Church Choir, Klang Chinese Methodist Sanctuary and Youth Choir, Luther House Chapel Choir, Saxon Children Choir, and Pensacola Commencement Choir and Orchestra. He has been awarded a full-scholarship by the Eastman School of Music to pursue his Master of Music Degree in Choral Conducting since Fall 2011. While at Eastman, he conducted the Eastman Repertory Singers and served as the accompanist of the Eastman Women's Chorus. He graduated with Bachelor of Music degree (Summa Cum Laude) in Piano Performance from Liberty University and was awarded both Outstanding Music Student and Keyboard Student of the Year in May 2010. David began his music education at the age of nine and successfully completed Piano Associate Diploma (ATCL) examinations of Trinity College London in the year of 2004.
